Board a Piece of History
Passenger boats have been touring on the Trent-Severn Waterways since the early 1900's, with the completion of the historic lift lock system. Liftlock & the River Boat Cruises launched their first vessel on this waterway in the 1950's with Captain Young at the helm of a sturdy wooden vessel. As the years passed, naturally, these majestic wooden boats deteriorated. However, their legacy will continue, as the last wooden liftlock cruise boat now serves as the Tourist Bureau in the centre of picturesque Pembroke, Ontario.
In the 1980's Blair Armitage reestablished Liftlock Cruises and began touring the waterways in the Peterborough area once again. Grant Kent's keen interest in the business began when he was a partner in Liftlock Cruises. Opportunity came knocking for the Kent Family in the early 1990's, when they acquired Liftlock Cruises.
The Launch of Liftlock & the River Boat Cruises
 In 1994, Grant and Valerie Kent and their family acquired the current cruise boat, The Island Princess III from Island Cruises in Kingston, and began Liftlock & the River Boat Cruises. The River Boat is docked on Little Lake in Peterborough, Ontario. The Island Princess III was completely refurbished in 1995, increasing the boat's capacity and giving it a whole new look.
 The most recent family company expansion occurred in 2005 when they acquired the Skylark VIII from the Wilson Family Estate in Lindsay, Ontario, where it was a familiar attraction to Scugog River passengers during the late 1980's and early 1990's. The Skylark VIII has also been renovated in Liftlock Cruise style, raising the wheel house and creating a dinner cruise atmosphere. This vessel allows the business to offer more variety of cruising and flexibility with private and public events.
Liftlock & the River Boat Cruises take up to 6 cruises per day on week days, and up to 8 cruises per day, on weekends per boat, from May to October. We offer a range of cruises including Sightseeing Cruises, Party Cruises, and yes, even Wedding Cruises.

Bringing people back year after year, the friendly crew are determined to make sure each passenger has a good time while on board. Each crew consists mostly of Kent family members, Erin & Kris as crew with Captain Grant or new Captain Ben Hatton, at the wheel.
